Evaluation of the shear wave velocity (VS) of an artificial carbonate sand obtained with the use of bender elements test

Carbonate sand is characterized by the presence of fragile grains, which may influence their mechanical response due to imposed loading; especially cyclic loading. The shear wave velocity (VS) provides relevant information for design foundation inserted in this type soil, can be obtained from laboratory tests with use bender elements (BE). This paper aims evaluate VS value a carbonate triaxial BE using three methods time domain. loading, unloading and cycling on also evaluated. results confirmed that confining stress affects dynamic parameters. At higher levels, signals aremore susceptible near field effects parameters are less influenced cycling.
